Why is Chiropractic treatment so beneficial during pregnancy?

The Why?

Pregnant women are choosing Chiropractic care as it is safe, and a drug free option for pain management. Chiropractic care does not only help to alleviate back pain without medication but also restores the pelvic alignment, which is so important throughout your pregnancy.  S/I joint dysfunction commonly affects pregnant women and leads to pelvic misalignment, tightening and torsion of pelvic muscles and ligaments. A pelvis that’s out of alignment can restrict the amount of space available to your developing baby. When the pelvis is out of alignment, it can also make it hard for your baby to move into the best position for birth.

The How?

Dr. Anneke Lees will do a full spinal and pelvic assessment before treating you. She uses the Webster Technique that is a specific gentle diversified chiropractic adjustment to restore proper pelvic balance and function. The adjustment works to restore function to the S/I joints, sacrotuberous ligaments and the round ligaments. She will also work on your glutes and iliopsoas muscles, making sure your pelvis is balanced.

The Outcome

You will feel more comfortable and sleep better. Your baby will have optimal space to move and grow which is what we need for the development of primitive reflexes for your growing baby. Proper pelvic balance allows your baby to assume the best possible position for natural birth and this can even reduce the length of active labour.
